Appointments 2.0

This post is for threading with Trafalgar Law anytime and anywhere. It can be used for Action or the Ring feature on journals (voice or written) to get in contact with him for personal conversations. This will be used primarily for 'placement' threads such as: someone left a present or 'by the way, come to this party on such-and-such' or the like.

... having a good day?

[Beware the streamers, Gai. There are yellow ribbons everywhere, each marking where the dreaded mistletoe is hanging. Law isn't bothering to destroy the plants. He's just marking where they are so people avoid them.

Right now he's bustling about, getting things ready. Then his attention finally alights on that ring as it catches the light and flashes.]

... oh. When?

[Good thing Gai catches on to the meaning of the yellow ribbons within a few seconds and takes care to avoid them-- as fun as it was last year, he's a taken man now and so is Law. Accidental mistletoe makeouts aren't really in his plans for this holiday.

He's just about to answer Law's first question when the doctor makes the ever-so-important observation, and his smile grows even wider. Why yes, he's quite eager to talk about this, whatever gave him away?]

Christmas Eve. I wanted the timing to be perfect.

You don't get better than that, no. [He remembers Gai's dislike of the entire holiday the last go around. Clearly things have changed.]

Eleven years ago, it was the worst day of my life. Now it's the best.

[The reasoning behind the selection of that particular date should be quite clear now.]

[It is. Reclaiming the day.]

And you can now look back on it and smile. I can't think of better reasoning.

[His eyes grow slightly sad, as if he's thinking back to exactly why he hates Christmas Eve so much in the first place. Just a subtle shift, but one that will likely be evident to Law.]

I never thought I'd have anything positive to say about Christmas Eve after that day.

I know. There's a lot of things we both thought would never be. That should be impossible. [The sorrowful shift has Law flashing back to their conversation on the Shinonome. And the upcoming marriage to Itachi - it still shocks him that it's actually going to happen.] And then life suddenly brings something or someone else into the picture and it's suddenly... all different. [Itachi for him. Elizabeth for Gai.]

And you don't know how to handle it.

[He certainly didn't. He'd tried so hard to push Elizabeth away from him, convinced that he could never be what she wanted, afraid that he would end up hurting her someday. Yet she'd stuck by him, and he couldn't be happier about that.]

So you try to run away.

But it... him... her... runs with you. And even if you don't know to handle it, not yet anyway, they do.

[Both Itachi and he had run in their own ways. Both of them had managed to keep up with each other anyway.]

[That earns a genuine smile from Gai and a quiet laugh.]

I wouldn't be having this conversation with you if she hadn't. She was very persistent about not letting me escape.

[Law smiles, and dips his head, quietly chuckling.]

Smart lady. She knew exactly what she'd be losing out on if she did.

Now I know you're just flattering me.

[But he's grateful for it. And, at heart, even if he doesn't believe it himself, he knows that Law means what he says.]

Everyone can use a bit of flattery time to time.

[Quipping but he's not flattering at all like Gai knows. He's being sincere.]

Don't I know it. Wouldn't want my ego shriveling up and dying.

[There's a slight note of self-deprecating humor there, but that's normal for Gai.]

[Shriveled up and dying. Now he's got the mental image of a neglected houseplant. ... not that the plants at home are ever neglected.]

Good thing it's rather drought resistant.

[Lightly. Teasing. Now the pirate's giving you a hard time.]

[And that's exactly why Law and Gai get along so well-- because they know when it's okay to tease like that and when it isn't.]

Guess I have spending part of my life in a desert to thank for that.

[Heh. Bantering back.] That and your wit. It did a pretty good job drying it out.

I don't hear Elizabeth complaining about that either.

[Not in any form other than with an occasional playful swat to his arm, that is.]

Hmm? Should she? Last time I heard, a dry wit is a pretty appealing thing.

Depends on who you ask. Some people prefer something a little less biting.

[All set up now. Motioning Gai over.]

Mmm... true. Different strokes for different stokes. I appreciate a little bite time to time.

[A small amused huff.]

... and as you said, Elizabeth has no complaints.

[And over Gai comes, taking a seat and holding up his arm so that Law can get him hooked up.]

I think the real question would be whether Itachi appreciates that biting as much as you do.

[Okay, that was definitely a double entendre and Gai is making no effort to hide that fact.]

Have to say we're both pretty nippy, so...

[Why make effort? Law sees no need to.]

[This is why you are his bro, Law.]

Sounds like the two of you have plenty of fun.

We do manage to entertain ourselves, yes.
