Appointments 2.0

This post is for threading with Trafalgar Law anytime and anywhere. It can be used for Action or the Ring feature on journals (voice or written) to get in contact with him for personal conversations. This will be used primarily for 'placement' threads such as: someone left a present or 'by the way, come to this party on such-and-such' or the like.

[She tries for a smile. It doesn't work.]

[He tries as well. Failure.]

[Quietly, she stepped inside, eyes downcast. She shut the door behind her.]

You heard?

... I did. [Heavy. Zoro dead. Law scrubs a hand over his face.]

[Katara didn't mean to do it. If she had, she would have meant to wait until she'd sat down, maybe with tea already prepared. But her face crumpled and she just started crying, then and there.]

[He's got you, Katara.

He wraps her up in a hug and keeps her close. As long as she needs.]

[She hugs him back and cries for a long time.]

I'm sorry - I know it's not - he doesn't even remember.

You remember. I remember.

[He briefly squeezes a little tighter.]

Even if he doesn't, everything that happened still remains with us. It does not make anything we feel... less or wrong.

[Even if they come borne from experiences made by the manipulations of the Malnosso. An artificial source. But then again, from that, there were so many things that they had made real from that.]

[She starts to cry again.

I'm so tired of everything hurting so much. It just never stops hurting.

Katara buried her face in his chest and wished, for a moment, that she could pretend again that she was holding onto her father.]

Katara...

[As far as he's concerned? He's holding onto his daughter. Even if they share nothing of flesh and blood.]

... I love you. [And these are difficult words to say and his throat is closing up around them. The most dangerous words on the sea. It's hard, and it's coming from a place that's hard to face, because of its origins and because it leaves him naked and exposed. He's a man of action, and saying it is hard, because some things are just meant to be understood. It's coming from a place of need - both her need perhaps to hear it, and his need to make the hurting stop just a little. ... and Luceti has changed him so, so much.] And your heart has been so heavy for so long, and growing heavier... and I wish...

... I wish I could make this better, even just a little...

[There was no way that Katara could fully understand what it cost Trafalgar Law to say that to her. There was much in his past he'd kept shielded from her, protected her from - and she had never asked, accepting him from the start as he was.

That didn't make them any less precious to her. For all of her open affection, "I love you" were not words Katara spoke often. In many ways, it had almost seemed unnecessary in the harsh climate she'd grown up in - love was shown, in actions and in care.

But sometimes it was really nice to hear.]

You are making it better. [Her confession was quiet and small.] Knowing I could come here makes it better.

[Her voice drops even lower, and she holds on to him tightly.] I love you too, you know.

[In the recesses of his mind, there's the sound of a choke at that. It echoes around his mental walls like a gunshot, like a sob.

Never thought he'd hear that. Or at least without the layers of deception and self interest so inherent in the pirate world. What he and Itachi shared was unspoken for the most part, only uttered when Law had been desperate to drag him back to sanity. Known, but unspoken.

There's a part of him that wars with that. Can't believe anyone could, pirate and tainted as he is (only nakama). Pirates are not good men. The part of him that counts every sin and measures the ugliness in him, and whispers this can't last. And one day they'll figure he's not worth it. Or have been indulging him all along.

It's a part. Insecurity. He intellectually knows that.

And his throat completely closes and he is without words. His head bows and rests on hers. A squeeze.

He holds on, tight.]
