Appointments 2.0

This post is for threading with Trafalgar Law anytime and anywhere. It can be used for Action or the Ring feature on journals (voice or written) to get in contact with him for personal conversations. This will be used primarily for 'placement' threads such as: someone left a present or 'by the way, come to this party on such-and-such' or the like.

Thank you. [He'll patiently wait for a server to arrive. No rush.] It's been quite a couple of months, huh?

[Icebreaking. We start off like this.]

Just one thing after another. It does make one appreciate these quieter days.

Couldn't agree more. Between the experiments and some of the recent arrivals, it gets a little frustrating.

[And there's the server. He turns to give his order.]

May I have some green tea, please? The sencha in particular. Thank you. [Turning politely to Raine as the server waits to take her order.]

I'll have the usual, please. Thank you. [She gives a smile to the server, and soon the pair are left alone again for the moment.]

It can wear down a bit, every once in a while. In those times sometimes taking a step back and examining perspectives can help.

Mm. That's true. Or a friendly ear. A sounding board is always good when things get stressful.

Indeed. [A tilt of the head.] Do you find that you're in need of one, Captain?

[Been awhile since someone called him that. Almost forgotten how it feels - like a part of him is fading.]

Yeah. [This is a nice way to get into things. He taps the edge of the table twice in thought.] This current trend of people jumping to wanting to amputate wings has been troubling. Perhaps jumping is far too strong a word, but still I am concerned.

Many people won't accept information unless they've tried it for themselves. In most cases, this is usually the best way to learn, but... to risk dying over something like that isn't exactly rational.

Mn. No. Unfortunately it might take someone dying to convince at least two of them. And even then...

[It's about comfort. So right. Science can be such a comfort. And even if it can be illuminating, it can also be blinding.]

I was considering volunteering for Miss Brennan's study; get to know her on a less confrontational basis, but I don't quite qualify by the specifications she set. I'm not quite human. [He's a modified one to be exact. And personally, he's not comfortable with such a person being near his wings. They are far too vulnerable - even given how completely he outclasses her if she should try anything.]

I don't exactly meet her qualifications either. [Though in which way, she doesn't say. At least, physically, she doesn't look old enough, anyway.] I did ask if I could study the results. The bones seem like they would be an interesting study, if nothing else.

[Yeah, but he's aware that's deceptive, and that you've been in the village over four years, going on five. Not that's terribly absolute on it's own... pegging you as over twenty five, but his instincts say not human all the same. More reasonable.]

I would agree, though personally I'm more interested in the neurological and cardiovascular systems feeding into them, and how they interact with the body as a whole.

That's also a fascinating branch of study, especially considering how they transcend different worlds and help our bodies function in this environment. There's also a uniqueness within the different colors they take on, and how some seem to change or alter. It never seemed to have any real pattern at all... and then you'd have to take those outside of this barrier into consideration as well.

No, it doesn't.

The Third Party and the Malnosso are interesting that way... I read that the residents wings grew during the Filial possession... looked like the Third Party's. The Third Party are noted to have incredible natural shifting ability and I believe it's been said they are not native to this world as well. I wonder if the state of their wings is a similar reflection of being more in tune to the forces that govern this place.

[That incident. Raine remembered it all too well.] From what we heard, that incident wasn't just contained to our little barrier, but spread worldwide as well. The Organization's reaction was to panic and order the deaths of the 'hybrids' in order to correct the problem, until a real solution was found.

The problem is that we know so little about the Third Party, aside from their single-mindedness when it comes to battle and determination not to engage any of us. Remarkable restraint, but it gives very little insight about them. Although that theory probably isn't too far from the mark, if you consider how all of the Malnosso's focus is on technology while the Third Party relies on their abilities. Perhaps it is a part of how their conflict started to begin with. An... evolution of sorts. [Which hits a little too close to home in some ways.]

That's interesting... and very disturbing, that they feared them so much that their first instinct was to react with lethal force. It doesn't speak well to what may have happened elsewhere as well.

[There's a pause. He wasn't on the mission to Segretar so he doesn't know of the recently converted Third Party members from the Malnosso security forces... but he senses something there.]

That could be very well be it, especially if the evolution wasn't a one time thing, and more a continual process. It would explain the fear of the hybrids very well if so.

The question is, are there certain circumstances that ... promote this evolution? And even then, death likely isn't something that reverses it, if that's the case. The spirits were involved with that shift, but they are something of a third party here themselves.

[And there's the tea, nice and hot and being presented to them.] -- Thank you.

We honestly know too little about this situation to come to any real conclusions.

Thanks. [He bows his head in gratitude to the server.]

That is the question, and all we can do is speculate at this point. The Malnosso do far too good a job of hiding information, even when we're out in the field on missions.

Indeed. That hasn't changed very much, even with them offering these opportunities. [A beat.] You've been on many missions yourself, haven't you?

[Taking a sip of tea before nodding.]

I've been on three in total. Two back to back, lasting a month, back in November and December, and the high priority cargo run in April.

Ah, I see. [She remembers hearing about all of them; she just hadn't been certain if there were more than that.] To be honest, I haven't been asked to go on any just yet. Although with my hours in the village, I haven't wanted to go away for very long.

That's understandable. [He puts the cup on the table.] ... and, when it comes to missions, it seems there are some they tend to favor more than others.

Oh? [She tilts her head.] Have you noticed many patterns?

Seen plenty of combat missions given out for the Luceti folks. Not just the straight out combat, but anything that requires tangling with the Third Party tends to be given more in this enclosure.

Which... I hate to say, I understand, given that Luceti's reputation for martial prowess exceeds any of the other enclosures. One that we live up to.

I suppose now that they've accepted that we're a source to be utilized, they don't waste any time in doing so.
