Smart elf. That was the proper option to choose.

Oh, he'll certainly let him go in one piece. It's not wise not to do that, even though a lesson must be taught. That said, he's being very generous with his penalty and he knows it.

He could do worse and others could certainly do worse. And might not be as smart as him to hold off, and turn could into would and will. What this is in reality is a warning shot across the bow. He hopes the elf appreciates it for what it is.
