[action]

That's true. There's a wide range on how people here define it.

[His fingers tap against his throat again. The waves are very loud, and it's not just his exceptional hearing.

Affect the soul.

It could go beyond the mental.

With just the mental... with just the five senses being affected - perhaps he couldn't break through it, but he might have been able to circumvent it. It is a perfect moment of clarity; like running water, there is always a way around. Can't dam a river forever. And the solution lies in the unorthodox, the simple, the self. Discard senses. Discard mind. Discard consciousness.

Sink to the clear and unlying perception of the heart and soul.

(Manifest will.)

The world breaks down into its component pieces in front of him. All the different ways to perceive:

- sight, smell, sound, taste, touch-

- the action potential lightning of the nervous system, the mineral earth of bone and tissue, the waters of blood and cellular fluid, the eddying wind of inhalation and exhalation, the fire in midochondria as oxygen is burned for fuel -

- mass and space and time and all the infinite dimensions curled into themselves touching and not touched, spread apart and twisted in, warped to a point (... like Blackbeard is a point.)-

- light and darkness... everything shading in between -

- mind, thought, conscious, unconscious -

Underpinning it all was spirit. Will. Soul.

How do you deal with something that could touch and damage that?

(The act of not doubting)

Like before. Rayleigh couldn't bring him down. He weathered that assault, that domination of spirit. And the Dark King is one of the most powerful of them all. Roger's right hand.

What's needed to survive that is right in front of him.

(Manifest will. The act of not doubting.)

It was all along.]
